Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
Neat, looks good!
Concerning the minis: where did you get the images, and do you already have ideas/images for all characters (not necessarily in 'print' format with a base and such, but just the graphics of the character)? I'm willing to have a look at those and Photoshop & playtest them a bit to get them to the right size.
One suggestion I have is that I'd like to get the image to fill the foreseen space a bit more in your example. Too much unused white space, but I presume it's only a mock-up.

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
Send me what you got and I'll have a look, I'm not great with these things but I've made enough cardboard terrain / paper mini's and played enough with Photoshop to pull off something basic, similar to your proposal but completed for all characters and scaled to fit the BS system.

Cool, no rush, would be nice to get the PnP and rules done before we get our fantasy sets though...

That's in almost a year. I think I'll manage ;-) (such promises have been known to bite me in the *** though...)

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
Hi ya Jeff, great mini, you are really on a roll. I take it we will refine the rules of the game as we go along (so newbies like me will understand them).
I am going to watch the film again tomorrow and see if there is anything we have missed or can add.
I feel we need a area in the game map where we can regain or earn health/resources so we can continue the quest, what do you think?

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
Fountain of Youth? Or the key points in the map, or a card that disrupts the play, like find a shrubbery, gain two health... All those things work.
Movement, player choice
Fighting, player choice plus random die/dice rolls
Cards, randomized disrupter
All these are good
So yeah we got theme, check, next think scenarios as you watch the film...
Mission one, real simple so a player learns the basics, like take the king to the witch hanging... Or something that follows the movie, but limits the actions to keep it simple. The. Each mission adds complexity and more variability... Cool?

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
Yeah then we need mechanics as Drew has been developing, player stats, baddies stats, but we also need the what are the actions that can be performed, how and when and why
Each player gets 2-3 actions per turn, you may
Move, fight, search (draw a card), you may do any of these actions twice, in any order, etc. those are some mechanics
The baddies, do they move, are they AI (card or simple mechanics) controlled...
What are the objectives, scenarios might help us there and what are winning conditions...

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
mmmm so mechanics might include, using terrain to hide or escape enemie attack and said terrain would give you a certain value of cover (decided by roll of dice) or no cover under certain circumstances, eg roll of dice fail to give needed score, table(you were hiding behind) explodes in disgust and the baddies advance 2 spaces towards you waving there swords in the air and calling you splinter heads and other poorly thought of insults.

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
I've had a look at the characters and images. At the moment there's two possibilities I see to get a set of 'minis' that's as consistent as possible: either use images of the Lego figures for Monty Python, or of the action figures made by Sideshow (the ones used by you in your first version Jeff (couldn't post link sadly since I'm a new member). Personally I like these last ones best. Only issue is that I don't think they made an action figure for each of the characters on our list. So we might not have 'a full set' of matching mini's. But they look nicest and I think I can get good enough quality images of each figure available.
We might want to consider asking for permission to use them though. Sideshow doesn't produce or sell them any more, so I don't see why they would have a problem with our form of use, but better to check rather than get a 'cease and desist' or worse.

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
what if we used photoshop to do a lineart (or sketch, or pencil) version of the characters?
filter, sketch, charcoal... that's it or ink outline?

Re: Monty Python's the Holy Grail Board Game (fan developed)
Now fellas im not making any promises, but my nephew is an artist. So ill ask him if he can throw some images up for us. Cant be sure he will do it though so dont change any plans until we see proof of the pudding. I can only ask him, maybe he will maybe he wont. Artists are funny like that. Moody lol

Wow! That would be cool if possible!
I laser cut some stands, 1" wide and 1.5" high, rounded tops, has a 1" round base, will upload picture in a bit
